Fat hatred is when Jamie Oliver starts a petition that states how much obesity is “costing” the U.S. and why “OBESITY IS PREVENTABLE”.
Fat hatred is when you say or think or assume any of the items on this list.

Fat-shaming is a specific variety of body-shaming. It is not the only kind of shaming that takes place, but it is one of the more common ones. Lots of folks think fat-shaming is perfectly acceptable. More than that, lots of folks think fat-shaming is actually a good thing, because with shame as a motivator, perhaps those darn fat people will stop being so fat.

Fat hatred is when I write this post and someone, or many people, think that the reason I am writing it is to justify the fact that I have (choose any or all that apply):
- Let myself go
- Been lazy
- Eat too much, simple as that
- Stopped working out
- Stopped caring about my body
- Eaten too many carbs
- Eaten too much fat
- Eaten too many calories
- Eaten too many frankenfoods
- Eaten too many grains
- Don’t believe in myself
- Don’t work out enough
- Don’t try hard enough when I do work out
Fat hatred is the rejection that fat people are actual people. We want to erase fat people, and when they don’t disappear, we qualify their existence with comments like “A real woman have curves, but 300 pounds?! That’s too far.” That’s a personyou are talking about.
Melissa McEwan at Shakesville sums it up so very nicely:

Fat people are not only tasked with finding individual solutions to systemic problems; they are, in many cases, asked to somehow overcome their very physiologies and make their bodies do things that they are simply unable to do.
We are literally asked to be people we are not.

In Melissa’s case, she may very well never be thin. After all, she says so, and she knows her body. I trust her, and I take her at her word (this is how I honor her fully as a human being, by not changing her).
In my case, my body’s timeline has looked like this: Chubby kid on and off, relatively average weight until I had kids, and then my pregnancy with E about 5 years ago pushed my weight to new highs.
I also have recurring PTSD symptoms that were finally addressed openly less than a year ago. It is because I have only been significantly heavier than my “usual” weight for the last 5 years that my weight is now coming off again.
That, and the fact that I have been following these ebooks, eating the food, and enjoying the privilege of having resources like: real food, knowledge of nutrition, access to a gym, time to go to the gym, etc. My body is not a receptacle that I can simply starve or work to a certain number on a scale. And even if you do exactly what I do, your body is different than mine.
PERFECT THE WAY YOU ARE. PERFECT THE WAY I AM.
And so that is why I mean it when I say that you are perfect the way you are. Yes, I am losing weight. But it’s not because I hate my body the way it is today. Today I weigh 265 pounds. And I love every pound. I would love my body even if I gained the weight all back. Because this body is all mine.
Instead of hating your body, or hating the fat on your body, or hating the fat on other people’s bodies, or just other bodies that aren’t what you say is “acceptable”, try on the idea of being body positive. Do it with yourself. Do it with other people around you. There is nothing wrong with anyone you see today.
