oatmeal honey yogurt facial acneIn spite of eating a real food diet, I have still struggled with my fair share of skin blemishes.  And as a teenager, while I was admittedly eating non-real-food, I had a big problem with acne, like many people nowadays!

I wish when I was younger that I knew how simple it was to take care of acne without buying everything under the sun that was sold in the acne section of the grocery store.  And I definitely wish that I didn’t go to a dermatologist and use a variety of drugs to clear up the problem.  Sometimes simple raw honey will do.  And if you want to be fancy, you can add a little oatmeal and yogurt to the mix.

Either way, raw honey will help your skin feel much happier, and look better too!

If you want to be very simple about your acne facial, simply dab on a teaspoon or two of honey onto your face and then work it gently into the skin with your fingertips.

Raw honey is beneficial to the skin, since it is naturally antibacterial, contains enzymes that help heal your skin (source), as well as soothing and very beneficial for acne-prone skin.  In fact, many people have found that honey works better than anything they have tried from the store. (source)

If you want to be a little more sophisticated with your face mask, try adding a little oatmeal for gentle cleansing and exfoliating and yogurt for smoothing and lightening.

Equipment Needed:

  • mortar and pestle
  • small glass bowl and spoon

Natural Acne Face Mask

1 tablespoon ground oatmeal (find oatmeal here)
1 tablespoon raw honey (find raw honey here)
1 1/2 tablespoons whole milk yogurt (how to make yogurt, find yogurt starters here)

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the oatmeal, honey, and yogurt.
  2. Apply to your face in a thin layer for about 20 minutes and then rinse off.  Use every day for moderate acne, or as desired for cleansing.
